Everyday, 132 people die by suicide.

  • Every 11 minutes a family will mourn the loss of their loved one to suicide.
  • 8 out of 10 suicides are male.
  • Suicide is now the 2nd leading cause of death in our youth.
  • A third generation immigrant is 3x more likely to take their life than a first generation immigrant.
  • Every suicide will touch 6 people directly.

Suicide does not discriminate.

Through our initiatives, we empower individuals and communities to recognize the warning signs of suicide, offer support to those in crisis, and promote mental wellbeing as a priority. By raising awareness, breaking down stigmas, and fostering a network of compassionate care, NHSPN strives to create a society where mental health is prioritized, and no one faces their struggles alone.

We believe in the power of community, education, and advocacy to create a brighter and healthier future for all individuals.  We understand first hand the cultural barriers our community faces when it comes to the topic of mental health and suicide prevention.

We are greatful for every person, business, and organization who has joined our mission to save lives and those who support the growth of NHSPN, a not-for profit  grassroot organization creating  a ripple effect to help save lives in all marginalized communities.

💜 Together, we are rewriting the narrative of mental health, one story of resilience at a time ;  your story isn't over yet.*6EEFFC2B-678A-4B3A-BAF2-3F418727E64F%20(1)*jpg?alt=media&token=e447d019-ccbf-4077-81ea-3eb85b9cafaa
NHSPN was born at Poiema Studio May 2022 and established as a not-for profit January 2023.  Founded by Gabriela Vargas and Alejandro Ramirez.

NHSPN offers tailored community presentations aimed at raising awareness about mental health, suicide prevention, and suicide loss. Through these presentations, we facilitate real conversations to help dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and address the impact of suicide loss within communities.

Stigma often prevents communities from openly discussing mental health issues and acknowledging the devastating effects of suicide, which can severely affect individuals' well-being. That's why we take pride in offering all our talks in both Spanish and English, ensuring accessibility for diverse audiences.

Let us help you initiate these crucial conversations in your community

Youth Suicide Prevention is one of our top goals.

NHSPN is proud to offer Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification both in English and Spanish.

Our founder, Gabi Vargas, is our current bilingual instructor.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
